Our Bulls
The Ohuka weaner bulls are retained with a portion sold off as yearlings for heifer mating autumn calving dairy herds. The remainder gets sold as 18 months old bulls in spring and can be used for both dairy heifer mating and tailing off dairy herds. One or two of the best yearling bulls are retained for mating our heifers and possible use as reserve stud bulls. These bulls are later offered to other Red Devon breeders for stud purposes.
In the past we have leased out bulls to dairy farmers, but have curtailed the practice since Mycoplasma Bovis. The only bulls still being leased out are ones that will go straight to slaughter afterwards, eliminating the risk of introducing M Bovis to Ohuka Farm

OUR HERD
Our herd was put together with a genetic variety from a range of herds in New Zealand and we continually improve the make-up of our herd with our choice of bulls and selection of animals to be retained for stud breeding
The influence of the Australian sires is starting to show throughout the herd with most animals showing a deep mahogany colouring in their coats.
